Increases of urinary albumin are associated with the leakage of plasma proteins into urine due to lesions of the glomerular basement membranes. This phenomenon can act as an indicator for kidney injury, such as glomerular inflammation, renal amyloidosis and diabetic glomerular nephropathy.
